New Beginnings Church: Our Story

We thought it was time to introduce our church on the blog! New Beginnings Church is a small place with a big heart for God’s word and each other, and all are welcome and invited to join us. New Beginnings Church is located in Brooklyn, Iowa. We love our town and our location in central Iowa, surrounded by cornfields.

Our History

New Beginnings Church is in the fellowship of Open Bible churches, so while our building was constructed in 1999, our roots through that organization go back to the Azusa Street Revival of 1906. Our church is both evangelical and charismatic at its heart, with a strong focus on biblical teaching and looking to God’s word as the ultimate source of truth. We’re a “family of Spirit-empowered churches committed to glorifying God and fulfilling the Great Commission.”

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Romans 10:17

Our pastors, Josh and Tracey Gerard, both have beautiful personal stories about how they came to be pastors here. God guided them to minister to others in Brooklyn, Iowa, Josh’s hometown, after serving together as associate pastors in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Though they felt “settled” in Tulsa and had large, thriving ministries, they sensed God was taking them in a new direction to humbly serve in a small town. Together with their kids, they moved here in 2010.

Josh and Tracey accepted the call to lead the church in 2017 after the previous pastor stepped down and asked them to consider pastoring. Josh also serves as our youth pastor and worship pastor, while Tracey is our children’s minister.

We’re a small church family that loves the word of God and loves to be used by the Holy Spirit as He sees fit. Together, we function as a united body of believers who follow Jesus in one accord.

Our Church Family

We have ministries for kids, teens, and adults. We are a growing group of Christ-followers who love a good potluck, playing games together, and encouraging each other in our small groups. We’ve been known to go camping once a year, watch the sunrise on Easter morning, and decorate for Christmas together.

We’re always looking forward to welcoming new friends to our church. Please join us on Sundays at 10!
